Spiritan Campus Ministry is fortunate that the University supplies our weekly needs to provide Spiritan Campus Ministry events each night. However, we have a large project that cannot be completed without your assistance. Your donations help us to perform yearly renovations and once-a-year programs that enrich our students.
As you can see from the video above, a multimedia sound system would enhance the experience of the many sacramental opportunities that we offer at Duquesne, as well as our concerts and praise and worship nights.
Renovation of the Sound System:
Campus Ministry quickly responded to the 2020 pandemic by creatively adapting our resources to promote online broadcasts and virtual celebrations from the Duquesne Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The 12-year-old sound system served us well until this past year on January 1, 2021 during the celebration of our New Year’s Day mass, it completely failed. Today we are operating with a quick “band-aid” fix and are tentatively broadcasting with a limited bare-bones capability.
In the time before Covid-19, Campus Ministry had a dream to replace our aging system with a state-of-the-art multi-media system to combine text, graphics, audio, video, and other technologies to promote quality programming from the Chapel. Our vision includes creating and broadcasting multi-media liturgical celebrations, hosting concerts in conjunction with the School of Music, and utilizing new and imaginative programs yet to be developed.
While current COVID budget constraints prevent us from investing in our future “dream” system, we do need to address our current basic sound system requirements. Microphones, sound boards, mixers, receivers and amplifiers all need to be compatible with hardware and technology standards and scalable for integration into any future functionality enhancements. All work is being qualified by Duquesne University’s media specialists, as well as certified professionals.
Making an investment toward our current needs is also making an investment into our future plans so that the prayer life of our Duquesne community will benefit from a Chapel audio system where every prayer is heard and understood.
Spiritan Mission Experiences:
Each year, Spiritan Campus Ministry offers mission trips to the following locations: Mullens, WV; Immokalee, Fl; Arlington/Baltimore; Chicago/Dayton and the Dominican Republic. These trips provide a hands-on learning experience for students where the education goes beyond the classroom. They learn the importance of meeting people where they are and working with other communities to create a better world. Your donations offer this opportunity for all students, regardless of their financial situations.
March for Life:
Each year, your generous donations provide the campus community with a bus to attend the March for Life in Washington D.C. The purchase of the bus allows our community to peacefully stand up for the right to life for all people, born and unborn. This year due to the pandemic, we are unable to attend the March for Life in person in Washington, D.C. However, we will be hosting a prayer vigil, which will include a rosary, mass, and reflection. In addition, we will be sponsoring a Service Sunday to assemble care packages for Genesis House for new and expecting mothers.
An additional way to make a major impact on the Duquesne Day of Giving is to help us spread the word via social media, e-mail, text, word of mouth! Share this address www.duq.edu/dayofgiving with the hashtag #DUQDayofGiving and encourage your family and friends to make a donation. Go Dukes!
