Below you will find answers to many common questions about Duquesne Day of Giving 2021.
What is the Duquesne Day of Giving?
The Duquesne Day of Giving is an online fundraising event that will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. On this day, we ask all Duquesne University alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and friends to visit duq.edu/dayofgiving and make an online donation to support any area of campus. Gifts of all sizes will make an immediate impact on our students and future generations of Dukes. Now in its sixth year, the Duquesne Day of Giving has raised $1,307,112 from 7,278 gifts since its inception.
Besides making a gift, how else can I support the Duquesne Day of Giving?
The Duquesne University community is encouraged to help spread the word about the Day of Giving to alumni and friends via e-mail, word of mouth, text message and on social media with #DUQDayofGiving. To get involved, take a moment to sign-up to be an ambassador so you can easily track the donations you help secure and join our Duquesne Day of Giving Facebook Team where we provide easy, fun ways to help spread the word.
How do I make a gift on the Duquesne Day of Giving?
On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, visit duq.edu/dayofgiving, click the "Give Now" button and fill out a brief donation form. Only online donations made through the Day of Giving website will be counted towards the day's totals. The giving period will only be open from midnight to midnight so make sure to get your gift in before it's too late!
I can't afford to make a large gift. Will my donation really make a difference?
Yes! Smaller gifts quickly add up to make a big impact on the Day of Giving. Plus, every gift improves Duquesne's donor participation rate, which in turn raises Duquesne's profile in national rankings and increases the value of a Duquesne degree. Due to gift processing fees, there is a minimum donation amount of $5.
What will my donation fund?
You decide! Gifts can be designated to the area(s) of campus you are most passionate about. Our donation form will give you the option to make a donation to support our greatest needs or to the school, organization, scholarship or sports team that means the most to you. After you donate, make sure to use our social media share buttons to let your network know you were part of the Duquesne Day of Giving!
But I already gave this year, why should I give again?
We greatly appreciate your support! Please feel free to take this opportunity to make a gift in support of another area of campus that is important to you. Think of the Day of Giving as the second collection basket coming around!
How do I issue a Challenge?
Participation and matching gift challenges inspire others to donate. They are a key driver in the Duquesne Day of Giving being a success. Were you planning to make a gift to Duquesne this year of $1,000 or more? Why not let us know and issue that as a participation or matching gift challenge? This will maximize your gift by motivating others to donate. Contact David Jakielo, A’05, GA’10 at jakielod@duq.edu to let us know of your interest.
How can I get reminders about the Day of Giving?
Update your contact information to make sure you receive our Day of Giving e-mail reminders and join our Facebook group.
Can my employer match the gift I make on the Duquesne Day of Giving?
Matching gift programs often vary by employer, both in eligibility and in the amount of the match, but can lead to your gift amount being doubled or even tripled. See if your employer participates at this link.
Can I send a gift by mail or by phone?
No. Only online gifts made via this website are counted towards the Duquesne Day of Giving totals.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. All gifts to the Duquesne Day of Giving are considered a donation to Duquesne University. Your gift will be acknowledged with an e-mail receipt for your tax records.
Why am I getting an error making my donation?
- Please make sure you selected an area to direct your gift, entered a gift amount and all of the information for required fields
- Try donating on a different device such as a phone, tablet or computer
- Try donating with a different web browser
If you are still having issues, please contact David Jakielo at jakielod@duq.edu.
What if I don't see the area of campus where I want to direct my gift?
On the donation form, under "Department or Program" select "Other"; then under "Fund Designation" select "Other"; and type-in where to designate your gift.
How do I make a gift to more than one area of campus?
Simply select "Add another gift to your donation" on the donation form. This will allow you to make multiple gifts within the same transaction.
