The Gumberg Library is a hub for academic exploration, distinctive intellectual resources, information literacy instruction, co-curricular programming, and expert library services for the Duquesne University community.
The library boasts newly updated individual and collaborative study areas, a FlexTech classroom and a rare book reading and seminar room. Also housed within the library are The Maureen P. Sullivan Curriculum Center, The Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center, and the University Archives.
Your donation will be used by Gumberg Library to help:
- Continue renovations throughout the library. In 2020, Gumberg Library updated the 5th floor with increased access to power, new glass-walled collaborative study rooms, furniture, and microwave area – but this is just the beginning! As student needs continue to evolve, Gumberg aims to meet the demand for flexible collaborative and private study areas. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for spaces and furniture that can be configured to allow socially distanced study, as well as other safety measures in the building. Your gift to Gumberg will help us continue to enhance library spaces and provide a welcoming, dynamic, and safe place to study and gather.
- Provide stimulating co-curricular programs such as author visits, expert panel discussions, and cultural and educational events. In 2020, Gumberg hosted a Women in Science panel discussion with Duquesne faculty and alumni, a common read, and a virtual presentation featuring Science Communicator Emily Graslie. Your donation will help the library continue to provide high-quality programming that explores and expands upon coursework across campus.
- Fund our student scholarship. The Gumberg Library Endowed Student Scholarship Fund was founded in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions of the library’s student employees, to help students who are working their way through college, and to demonstrate the importance of the University’s mission. The scholarship is awarded annually in April to coincide with National Library Week.
