International Students

WHY SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS?

Supporting international students means supporting Duquesne’s place in the world.

  • Imagine picking up your entire life and moving halfway across the world to pursue your dreams at the age of 18 or 22.
  • Imagine thinking that the only way to succeed in life is to pursue a higher education outside of your own country.
  • Imagine taking such a leap only to find that the funds that you have saved to support this dream have been depleted by governmental policies or the value fluctuation of your country’s currency. Students are leaving family, friends, and everything that is familiar to them to improve their lives and the lives of others.

International students at Duquesne enhance our community and the overall student experience in countless ways.  By sharing their stories from home, or by exposing our U.S. students to the wonders of the world outside of the U.S., our international students help to diversify and elevate the Duquesne experience.

Student smiling “Supplemental funding has helped me remain at Duquesne to pursue my education, especially considering the challenging economic situation of my country, Nigeria, and the Naira to dollar exchange rate which has quadrupled over the years. I am able to continue with my education at Duquesne without being overwhelmed by financial pressure.”

-Collins Oyediran, International Relations Major, Nigeria

DUQUESNE AROUND THE WORLD

Duquesne’s global footprint is wide, and we are proud that students from around the world choose to call Duquesne and Pittsburgh their home while pursuing their educational dreams in the United States. However, being an international student in the United States comes with a set of challenges.  With the world in constant flux, whether through inconsistent financial markets and currency devaluation, or political upheaval in various regions of the world, a student’s situation can often change in a moment.

This is where you come in….

THE IMPACT OF YOUR GIFT

In the spirit of the Duquesne mission, the Center for Global Engagement attempts to support students who find themselves in a difficult financial situation a world away from home. But our funding is limited.

Supporting students with special supplemental funds throughout the year can take the pressure off students whose visa status may be in jeopardy due to their lack of funding, and offer them peace of mind so they can concentrate on their studies and complete their degrees.  What’s more, students who graduate and become Duquesne alumni are expanding our Duquesne community around the world every year.

International Students Challenge

The Burke Family Fund will match donations to the International Students Challenge, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500.

PLEASE DONATE TO SUPPORT OUR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN DIFFICULTY ON FEBRUARY 5!

Please consider supporting our international student community by offering a gift to the International Student Assistance Fund to support our students in times of need so that they may complete their degrees from Duquesne.

"I am deeImage of student ply grateful to Duquesne University for helping me fulfill my dream of studying in college and pursuing my ideal major through this funding.  As a Ukrainian refugee, their unwavering support has meant the world to me. Duquesne’s dedication to helping students, regardless of their  background, has given me the opportunity to grow academically and work  toward becoming a valuable member of society.”
